To be a model

In the artistic field, a model is a person or an object whose image the artist (painter or sculptor for example) reproduces: in photography, a model is more generally a “person who poses for a photographer».
However, the term model basically designates what serves as a reference, a source of imitation, including in the fine arts.
We will therefore distinguish two types of portraits (the second being the subject of this site):
1) The portrait as the image of the person photographed: the person poses as a model with the aim of obtaining a photograph of itself.
- This is typically the case of commissioned photographs (person asking a photographer for photos of themselves) or identity, legal, scientific, editorial photographs (photo-testimonials of an article), etc. .
- Photographs can be realistic (resembling) or idealized (more or less artificial valuation of the person photographed).
2) The portrait created from the image of a person: the model then poses to incarnate the image that sought for the project.
- These are typically photographs with an artistic (imaginary, surrealism), commercial (fashion, advertising), suggestive (charm, eroticism) or illustrative (historical reconstruction) purpose, to name but a few examples.
- Just as an actress plays a role, it is not because the person serves as a model for a theme that this one represents her private life or her personality!
Unless explicitly requested, the collaborations on this site correspond to the second category of portraits, where models sharing the same interest in photographic creation agree to embody the characters and poses of these projects.
